Add your name to the "Thank You" List

When you go home,
Tell them of us, and say,
For your tomorrow
We gave our today.
--Small War Memorial Epitaph

Went the day well?
We died and never knew.
But, well or ill,
Freedom, we died for you.

 -- Main War Memorial Epitaph

John Maxwell Edmonds (1875 -1958)

In fact these are two different
memorial verses:

The first is the epitaph on the
war memorial at Kohima, Burma

When you go home,
Tell them of us and say,
For your tomorrow,
We gave our today

This is actually on a small memorial
nearby, not on the main memorial.

The Kohima 2nd Division Memorial is
maintained by the Commonwealth War
Graves Commission on behalf of the 2nd
Infantry Division. The memorial
remembers the Allied dead who repulsed
the Japanese 15th Army, a force of 100,
000 men, who had invaded India in March
1944 in Operation U-Go. Kohima, the
capital of Nagaland was a vital to control
of the area and in fierce fighting the
Japanese finally withdrew from the area
in June of that year.

The second is a memorial verse by First
World War poet John Maxwell Edmonds (1875 - 1958)

Went the day well?
We died and never knew.
But, well or ill,
Freedom, we died for you.

The poem was printed in The Times on 6th Feb
1918 and was used on quite a few war memorials.
Most towns and villages had a war memorial,
usually in the churchyard, so many people were
killed in WWI. After WWII (and some subsequent
wars) most places just carved the extra names
on the same memorial.

Bin Ladin can run but not hide

Has Anyone Seen OBL?

Osama Bin Laden, your time is short; We'd rather you die, than come to court. Why are you hiding if it was in God's name? You're just a punk with a turban; a pathetic shame. I have a question, about your theory and laws; "How come you never die for the cause?" Is it because you're a coward who counts on others? Well, here in America, we stand by our brothers. As is usual, you failed in your mission; If you expected pure chaos, you can keep on wishing; Americans are now focused and stronger than ever; Your death has become our next endeavor. What you tried to kill, doesn't live in our walls; It's not in buildings or shopping malls. If all of our structures came crashing down; It would still be there, safe and sound. Because pride and courage can't be destroyed; Even if the towers leave a deep void. We'll band together and fill the holes We'll bury our dead and bless their souls. But then our energy will focus on you; And you'll feel the wrath of the Red, White and Blue. So slither and hide like a snake in the grass; Because America's coming to kick your !!! Osama Bin Ladin can Run but he cannot Hide

Twas the night before Payback and all through the Land, They're running like rabbits in Afghanistan, Osama's been praying, he's down on his Knees, He's hoping that Allah will hear all his Pleas. He thought if he killed us that we'd fall and Shatter, But all that he's done is just make us Madder. We ain't yet forgotten our Marines in Beirut, And we'll kick your butt, with one heavy Boot. And yes we remember the USS Cole, And the lives of our sailors that you bastards Stole. You think you can rule us and cause us to Fear, You'll soon get the answer if you live to Hear. And we ain't forgotten your buddy Saddam, And he ain't forgotten the sound of our Bombs. You think that those mountains are somewhere to Hide. They'll go down in history as the place where you Died. Remember Khadhafi and his Line of Death? He came very close, to his final Breath. So come out and prove it, that you are a Man, And they sure do carry some mighty big Guns. They would have stayed home with children and Wives, Till you bastards came here and took all these Lives. Osama I wrote this especially for You, For air mail delivery by B-52. You soon will be hearing a thud and a Whistle, Old Glory is coming, attached to a Missile. I will not be sorry to see your ass Go. It's Red, White, and Blue that is running this Show. Author Unknown

U.S. Counterterrorism Policy First, make no concessions to terrorists and strike no deals; Second, bring terrorists to justice for their crimes; Third, isolate and apply pressure on states that sponsor terrorism to force them to change their behavior; Fourth, bolster the counterterrorism capabilities of those countries that work with the U.S. and require assistance.

Ansar al-Islam Fact Sheet Office of the Coordinator for Counterterrorism Washington, DC November 15, 2002 Terrorist Exclusion List Section 411 of the USA PATRIOT ACT of 2001 (8 U.S.C. § 1182) authorized the Secretary of State, in consultation with or upon the request of the Attorney General, to designate terrorist organizations for immigration purposes. This authority is known as the Terrorist Exclusion List (TEL) authority. A TEL designation bolsters homeland security efforts by facilitating the USG s ability to exclude aliens associated with entities on the TEL from entering the United States. Designation Criteria An organization can be placed on the TEL if the Secretary of State finds that the organization: * commits or incites to commit, under circumstances indicating an intention to cause death or serious bodily injury, a terrorist activity; * prepares or plans a terrorist activity; * gathers information on potential targets for terrorist activity; or * provides material support to further terrorist activity. Under the statute, terrorist activity means any activity that is unlawful under U.S. law or the laws of the place where it was committed and involves: hijacking or sabotage of an aircraft, vessel, vehicle or other conveyance; hostage taking; a violent attack on an internationally protected person; assassination; or the use of any biological agent, chemical agent, nuclear weapon or device, or explosive, firearm, or other weapon or dangerous device (other than for mere personal monetary gain), with intent to endanger, directly or indirectly, the safety of one or more individuals or to cause substantial damage to property. The definition also captures any threat, attempt, or conspiracy to do any of these activities. Designation Process The Secretary of State is authorized to designate groups as TEL organizations in consultation with, or upon the request of the Attorney General. Once an organization of concern is identified, or a request is received from the Attorney General to designate a particular organization, the State Department works closely with the Department of Justice and the intelligence community to prepare a detailed administrative record, which is a compilation of information, typically including both classified and open sources information, demonstrating that the statutory criteria for designation have been satisfied. Once completed, the administrative record is sent to the Secretary of State who decides whether to designate the organization. Notices of designations are published in the Federal Register. Effects of Designation Legal Ramifications Individual aliens providing support to or associated with TEL-designated organizations may be found inadmissable to the U.S., i.e., such aliens may be prevented from entering the U.S. or, if already in U.S. territory, may in certain circumstances be deported. Examples of activity that may render an alien inadmissible as a result of an organization s TEL designation include: * membership in a TEL-designated organization; * use of the alien s position of prominence within any country to persuade others to support an organization on the TEL list; * solicitation of funds or other things of value for an organization on the TEL list; and * solicitation of any individual for membership in an organization on the TEL list commission of an act that the alien knows, or reasonably should have known, affords material support, including a safe house, transportation, communications, funds, transfer of funds or other material for financial benefit, false documentation or identification, weapons (including chemical, biological, or radiological weapons), explosives, or training to an organization on the TEL list. (It should be noted that individual aliens may also found inadmissible on the basis of other types of terrorist activity unrelated to TEL-designated organizations; see 8 U.S.C. §1182(a)(3)(B).) Other Effects 1. Deters donation or contributions to named organizations. 2. Heightens public awareness and knowledge of terrorist organizations. 3. Alerts other governments to U.S. concerns about organizations engaged in terrorist activities. 4. Stigmatizes and isolates designated terrorist organizations. Background On December 5th, 2001 Secretary of State Colin Powell, in consultation with the Attorney General designated the following organizations, thereby placing them on the Terrorist Exclusion List: Terrorist Exclusion List Designees * Al-Ittihad al-Islami (AIAI) * Al-Wafa al-Igatha al-Islamia * Asbat al-Ansar * Darkazanli Company * Salafist Group for Call and Combat (GSPC) * Islamic Army of Aden * Libyan Islamic Fighting Group * Makhtab al-Khidmat * Al-Hamati Sweets Bakeries * Al-Nur Honey Center * Al-Rashid Trust * Al-Shifa Honey Press for Industry and Commerce * Jaysh-e-Mohammed * Jamiat al-Ta awun al-Islamiyya * Alex Boncayao Brigade (ABB) * Army for the Liberation of Rwanda (ALIR) -- AKA: Interahamwe, Former Armed Forces (EX-FAR) * First of October Antifascist Resistance Group (GRAPO) -- AKA: Grupo de Resistencia Anti-Fascista Premero De Octubre * Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LT) -- AKA: Army of the Righteous * Continuity Irish Republican Army (CIRA) AKA: Continuity Army Council * Orange Volunteers (OV) * Red Hand Defenders (RHD) * New People s Army (NPA) * People Against Gangsterism and Drugs (PAGAD) * Revolutionary United Front (RUF) * Al-Ma unah * Jayshullah * Black Star * Anarchist Faction for Overthrow * Red Brigades-Combatant Communist Party (BR-PCC) * Revolutionary Proletarian Nucleus * Turkish Hizballah * Jerusalem Warriors * Islamic Renewal and Reform Organization * The Pentagon Gang * Japanese Red Army (JRA) * Jamiat ul-Mujahideen (JUM) * Harakat ul Jihad i Islami (HUJI) * The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) * The Lord s Resistance Army (LRA) Designated on November 6, 2002 * Al Taqwa Trade, Property and Industry Company Ltd. * Bank Al Taqwa Ltd. * Nada Management Organization * Youssef M. "Our hearts are bound together for the great glory of democracy and of freedom. We ask, O God, that you would be with all the families who have suffered the attack upon our freedoms, and that they may sense through all that we do now and in the days ahead, the love of a grateful nation, We pray that You would be present with our men and women of the armed forces, who, even as we pray, are in harm's way to defend our freedoms and bring freedom not only to us but to the people of Afghanistan."
