Special Warfare Combatant Crewmembers Nav Rate 5352
SWCC are highly trained personnel who operate the seaborne vehicles that infiltrate and exfiltrate the SEALS. They are also trained to fire several different combat craft weapons to provide covering fire during these operations. The training is held at the Phil R. Bucklew Naval Special Warfare Center in Coronado, California. All prospective Special Warfare Combat Crewmember trainees participate in a physically and mentally challenging training program. During training, they are presented with obstacles that will develop stamina and leadership.

First Phase
SWCC Basic Crewman Training trains, develops, and assesses SWCC candidates in physical conditioning, water competency, teamwork, and mental tenacity. This phase starts with a three-week indoctrination. The SWCC Basic is eight weeks long. Physical conditioning with running, swimming, and calisthenics grows harder and harder as the weeks progress. Students mental fortitude and teamwork skills are tested during an arduous 72 hour long evolution involving constant exposure to the elements, underway boat and swimming events, coupled with testing previously taught navigational skills and boat tactics, under stressful and sleep deprived conditions. Physically, you will participate in weekly timed runs, timed obstacle courses, swim in the pool, bay and ocean, and learn small boat seamanship.
Second Phase
Crewman Qualification Training (CQT) trains, develops, and qualifies SWCC candidates in basic weapons, seamanship, first aid, and small unit tactics. This phase of training is twelve weeks in length. Physical training here is geared to ramp the student up to the requirements of the operational Special Boat Teams. CQT concentrates on teaching Maritime Navigation, communications, waterborn patrolling techniques, marksmanship and engineering. The student receives an introduction to the Naval Special Warfare Mission Planning Cycle, enabling him to participate in the planning, briefing, execution, and debriefing of an NSW mission from their tasking, to launch point, and on to their combat objective, where students apply all the techniques they have acquired during training. These are skills that separate SWCC operators from all other Special Operations forces.
